Upgrade and Accelerate!
Faster computers and a larger storage is awaiting us this semester after the laboratory equipment has been upgraded to a faster and more state-of-the-art gears that will make our educational experience more interactive and productive. New equipment, faster transactions, faster server requests, bigger file storage, stronger security and more learning – these are just some of the things that we can expect after the said upgrade now that the equipment are all set this next semester.
To start off, the new computer laboratory shall be made available to students on the start of the classes which contains new computers and NStations as addition to our other laboratories. This will cater programming and productivity tools classes with a capacity of 35 students. Moreover, Internet speed was also upgraded from 4.5 DSL to 6MBPS Fiber optics connectivity which is capable of operating in high speed since data are transmitted through pulses of light.
As compared to the former, optical fibers transmit more information quickly even in far distance. Also, fiber optics is difficult to tap and hack into because of the nature of its technology. It holds a first choice advantage over others with regard to data security.
Consequently, our servers were replaced with HP Proliant Rackmount Servers which were installed with 1TB HDD and having a maximum memory capacity of 192GB. The new servers were using Intel Xeon 5506 processor and can accommodate up to 4 hot/non-hot plug hard disk. An additional hard disk was also installed which will automatically activate when the main hard drive is down, this guarantees less or no downtime.
The NStation Servers of the Internet laboratory and computer laboratory were also upgraded to Intel Core i5-760 Quad Core to make request and processing speed faster. The use of new APC Smart UPS for HP Servers and Emerson Liebert PSI for network switches was also implemented to protect equipment from damages caused by power disruption and to provide extended time for proper shutdown during power failure. The Rackmount Data Cabinet was also used in the server room to make sure that all server and equipment are organized and protected from any unauthorized access or misuse.
Furthermore, to ensure safety and to track activities inside the college, new CCTV cameras were installed in common areas and entry points of the main building. Soon, the college plans to put CCTV cameras all over the campus.
These continuous upgrades were part of our commitment to give you, our students, the quality of services and education you deserve because you all inspire us in coming uo with new ideas that will make your stay at STI Munoz worth while. For as long as you are inspired in being the best, we will never cease in also inspiring you to become better and be one of the finest students who will contribute in building the nation.
Let us say hello to new things and new people for a stronger and brighter Academic Year next semester! We’ll see you all this June!
