It is such an explosive start of 2014 for the ICT Department as they celebrated the ICT Week held last January 13 to 17, 2014 at the Covered Court, STI College Munoz-EDSA, Quezon City. With the theme, “ICT Week: Long Live Explosion in the Core,” the STIers from the core of the ICT department exploded as they competed for the championship titles.
The week-long event was formally opened as Ms. Amy Pagdanganan, School Administrator and Ms. Marilyn Afable, ICT Dean respectively cut the ribbon as the sign of the newly conceptualized ICT Week event. It is composed of six (6) houses namely; Romantic Kilby, Wonder Gates, Great Jobs, Radical Assimov, Incredible Nuemann, and Fantastic Ritchie where ICT students were distributed to these houses and competed to one another. Ms. Afable said in her opening remarks that this year’s event is exciting as there is a new flavor added to the usual ICT week. She also claimed saying, “Go ICT! Go STI! We can do it!” and everyone overjoyed to start the long live explosion in the core of STI College Munoz-EDSA.
It was an explosion of the minds as the Tagisan ng Talino competition activated. From 20 ICT students, Marlon Bruno – 2nd year MMA, Justin Paul Castro – 3rd year BSIT, Arvy Belen – 3rd year BSIT, Rodel Gamas Jr. – 2nd year MMA, spotted the Champion in the Think Quest event. According to Allan Jay Tomol – Think Quest Champion 2013, the questions for this year were challenging and you really have to think deeply and quest for the right answer. On the other side, the Into Programming Championship won by Ezekiel Sindac – 1st year ITP for the Junior Division and Angelo Mari Bantiling – 3rd year BSIT for the Senior Division was also an explosive code war. The code warriors bravely attacked the programming problems. With the armor of knowledge provided to them by the school, they were able to defeat three (3) levels of programming problems and made it to the championship round. When talking about Linguistics, Mark Laurence Jacalan – 1st year MMA dubbed the Championship in the Stand-Up and Deliver impromptu speech and Mariel Kaye Guevara – 1st year MMA penned the Championship in the Essay Does It event. These champions will represent the school for the Tagisan ng Talino Cluster Competition at STI College Novaliches, Quezon City on January 29, 2014.
Art is everywhere. This makes our lives in harmony. In the Tagisan ng Sining competition, Lester Ramos – 2nd year MMA and the group of Ian Pascua – 1st year MMA carved the Championship in the Shutter’s Best and Music for Reel competitions respectively showed their talents in arts through photography and film. Other events like Bits and PC Assembly won by Carlos Alon – 3rd year BSIT and the Digital Poster Making contest won by Eunice Lee – 2nd year MMA. There are also extracurricular events like field demo won by the Fantastic Ritchie; booth, Wonder Gates; DOTA tournament, Aljohn Louie Lara, Collin Gaditano, Albert Angelo Juan, Denmark Candilo, and Darel Jhon Pol; and the first ever IT Gurls 2014 cross pageant crowned to Zeckiel Faith Inzon and Ryan Kenneth Barcelona, both 1st year BSIT. All of these brought fun and entertainment to all the students.
By the zeal of valor and talents, the first ever house cup over-all champion was taken by the Fantastic Ritchie. They won champions most of the events and even ranked to second and third place. The Fantastic Ritchie said that they will defend this title in the long run which challenged the other houses to upgrade their explosive weapons to steal the crown.
With this kind of event, STIers from the ICT Department showcased their dynamic talents not only in the field of computer studies but as well as in art and linguistics. It showed that learning is fun where you enjoy doing while feeding up your minds with essential talents that would probably make you stand out among others.
Who will be the next House Cup Champion next ICT Week? Would the Fantastic Ritchie defend it? Or there will be new a champion? Don’t be left behind in the core. Explode your talents and be ANGAT ICT, ANGAT ESTUDYANTE!
