Algolympics 2017

Joining Unionbank’s Hackathon and Microsoft’s Health Hacks further kindled our BS in Information Technology students’ passion to advance their skills and expose themselves to different learning opportunities outside STI College Muñoz-EDSA.

Last February 11, 2017, Algolympics 2017 was held at the University of the Philippines Diliman which was participated in by 33 prestigious schools around Luzon such as UP Diliman, UP Los Baños, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, University of Sto. Tomas, Laguna State Polytechnic University, Lyceum of the Phillipines University, Technological University of the Philippines Manila, National University, Far Eastern University, and of course, the one and only STI College in the event, STI College Muñoz-EDSA. The event was organized by the Association for Computing Machinery University of the Philippines Diliman Student Chapter, Inc., a programming competition initiated by the campus.

With only one computer, the teams comprising of three individuals were given 12 problems which they solved for five hours. Our team was participated in by Jonel Belandres (4th year, BSIT), Edgardo Loteria II, and Ivan Gloria (3rd year, BSIT-DA). The team was trained by our BELP Coordinator, Mr. Julius Yves C. Battung, and was facilitated by our ICT Coordinator, Mr. Jay C. Rico and our BSCS Thesis Coordinator, Ms. Maricar D.O. Bugtong.

Although our team did not make it to the top 3, they made our school proud with their determination and passion to learn more as they represent our school. Thanks to our brilliant students, and to our coaches and administration who supports them all the way.
