2015: The Year That Was

Each year entails a series of ups and downs that make us a better person for the succeeding years. 2015 has brought to us challenges that did no less than hone our potentials and strengthen our ties. Hence, despite the challenges, nothing beats a reminiscing heart and mind of all the many successful endeavors our school, our students, and our employees have gone through. Here is a quick recap of the things we are grateful of for 2015.

OUR SCHOOL

Summer Youth Camp

Last April 2015, the first ever Summer Youth Camp was held in STI to empower the youth in the areas of mind, body, heart, soul, and passion. The six-day camp provided the campers with activities which enriched the abovementioned areas of life through the awareness and enhancement of their housekeeping, language, social, and technical skills. This one week activity also created an avenue for the campers to see life without gadgets, but with physical friends and guidance figures.

STI for SHS

Already in its second year of Senior High School (SHS) having its first batch of graduates this year, STI College Muñoz-EDSA was tapped by DepEd NCR as one of the pioneering Senior High Schools in the Metro. This resulted from the administration’s advanced anticipation of SHS.

SHS Partnership

STI College Muñoz-EDSA recently partnered with Francisco High School for Senior High School. The contract includes the agreement between the two parties to share with the resources and facilities towards the attainment of one goal: to educate and empower the youth.

NSTP Endeavors

The NSTP coordinator and coaches, together with the active participation of the students, took part in numerous events this year that contributed to how established they are in the institution now. The events which took part in the previous year were as follows: Brigada Eskwela, Drug Awareness Seminar, Blood-Letting with Red Cross, Pope’s Visit, Urban Farming at Brgy. Holy Spirit, Quezon City, Rescue Training with Rescue 177, NSTP-MMDA Earthquake Seminar, Mosquito-Trap Training with English for Power, Manila Bay Clean-Up Drive, and Project Compassion:

Christmas Gift-Giving program.

Not only did the NSTP Coordinator, Mr. Wilson Morano implemented classroom activities within the department. The team also coordinated with organizations outside the school like Red Cross, Rescue 177, and MMDA. An example of this is the Earthquake Seminar. News revealed last year projected the possibility of the “Big One” or the big earthquake that may possible hit the Metro. The students’ awareness and preparedness are attributed to this seminar envisioned by the NSTP Department.

BELP

Blended E-Learning Program was first envisioned by the School President to prove that the world could be turned to a 21st Century flat world. It was fully implemented in the Summer of 2015. All students who enrolled last summer were under the BELP which showcased flexibility in terms of schedule and strategy. Aside from our students, we also have students from working professionals and those outside the Philippines.

Before the year ended, we are happy to learn that after the second semester of the A.Y. 2015-2016, the results of the survey regarding BELP has greatly improved compared to the previous semesters.

OUR STUDENTS

Mr. STI

Who would deny the looks and brains of our very own Arthur Evia from the Hospitality and Tourism Management? He won as the 1st Runner-Up in Mr. STI for the Talent Search 2015 (National-Level). Surely, his humility became our pride.

IT and HTM Immersions

A series of IT and HTM immersions were held last year since September. These immersions aim to empower the youth from nearby High Schools as they were engaged into different workshops like Cupcake Decoration, Creating Powerful Presentation Using Prezi, Mocktail Mixing, and PC Troubleshooting.

Carmi Jane Tapoc

Because of her active participation in her community and school organization, the Rotaract Club of STI College Muñoz-EDSA, Carmi Jane B. Tapoc from BSIT had shown her brilliance as she was chosen as one of the few to represent the country in the Asia Pacific Regional Rotaract Convention (APRRC) in Jakarta Indonesia last August 7-11, 2011. Indeed, Carmi has brought pride not just to her organization but also to her STI family.

EMPLOYEES

Erika M. Ilagan as a National Champion

English Coach Erika M. Ilagan won a National Competition as the country’s Champion Evaluator last October under the organization, Toastmasters International held at Malolos, Bulacan last October. She competed against 11 Divisions, and with her speech with heart and soul, she won over all of them.

W. Morano – being the director for QC (NCR Ascend)

Mr. NSTP, Mr. Wilson Morano brought good news as he gave pride and honor to our school for being elected as the Quezon City Cluster Director, and one of the members of the Board of Directors of NCR Association of NSTP Implementers held at De Lasalle Araneta.

Rita M. Inting’s 20th Year of Service in STI College

Her loyalty has served not just her but also this institution very well. Boss Ritz to her colleagues, Ma’am Rita Inting, the Head of the Maintenance, has rendered the longest number of years than any other employee here in STI Muñoz. Last 2015, we celebrated her 20th year of faithful service.

Career Adviser as STI Network Model

Our very own Career Adviser, Mr. Salem R. Sergio was tapped by the STI Network to be one of the models in an STI Advertisement. As his face could paint a thousand words, so would the advertisement with our colleagues from other STI branches.

These and many more sum up our 2015. Indeed, we can say it was a joyous and bountiful year for all of us. And for the year to come, we look forward to a more blessed one.
